How Players, Coaches & Teams Are Adjusting To ‘Playing At Home’

PITTSBURGH – Over the past few weeks, amid the current COVID-19 crisis, we’ve learned the passion, enthusiasm and overall spirit for baseball and softball is as strong as ever.

Players still want to play. Parents, coaches, and scouts still want to see their players practice and develop their skills.

With the baseball and softball seasons – as well as a multitude of tournaments and showcases – cancelled or suspended, we asked ourselves at DK: What can we do? How can we help?

We started by developing the Play At Home Initiative for baseball and softball, discounting our products, offering free three month subscriptions and encouraging everyone to #StayAtHome and #PlayAtHome.

We can’t give players their games back, but we can give them the chance to play at home and even play with their teams remotely.

And a funny thing happened: Players, parents, teams and coaches listened.

The response to the Play At Home Initiative has been fantastic. Our partners and users have shown everyone that it’s fun to play at home, to get creative, and to figure out new ways to improve.

In fact, they’ve inspired us.

Over the coming days and weeks, we will roll out content, tips, videos, and activities for players and teams – enabling them to have fun and keep improving at home. We are excited about what’s coming next!

But first, let’s take a look at what our friends and partners, GC Baseball Club, did to help their players stay on top of their games at home.

A little over two weeks ago, GC Baseball created the “Coronavirus At-Home Challenge” using the Diamond Kinetics’ SwingTracker Bat Sensor and the Top 10 Swing Count Leaderboards found in the DK Web App.

All told, players in four age groups – 12U, 13U, 14U and 15U – documented over 10,000 quality swings during a two-week period at home with the winners from each age group taking home a special prize from GC Baseball Club.

This is just one example of how teams can use SwingTracker (or PitchTracker) at home to keep their players engaged, and their skills sharp.
