WHAT WE DID LAST SUMMER
September 26, 2022 | Frank Cinicola
Now that summer is officially over, we wanted to share just a few of the things we did!
Diamond Kinetics has been a key part of some of the premier baseball and softball events of the summer. DK has featured prominently at the MLB Breakthrough Series, USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline League, MLB All-Star Week, as well as the PONY World Series and Home Run Derby, measuring the metrics of players of all ages and skill levels, while showing them an interactive way to digitally engage with the sport they love.
2022 MLB Breakthrough Series
Taking place from June 6-10 at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida, the MLB Breakthrough Series is a joint effort by MLB and USA Baseball. The program looks to develop players on and off the field through mentorships, seminars, gameplay, scout evaluations, and more. Breakthrough Series players were instructed by former Major Leaguers including Ken Griffey Sr. and Mike Scioscia, among others. All players used the Diamond Kinetics SwingTracker during BP and during games, collecting swing metrics like max barrel speed and max acceleration that were evaluated by coaches and scouts to project how the prospects would fare at the next level.
USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) League
Diamond Kinetics was in attendance at the 2022 USA Baseball PDP League which took place from June 29 to July 6 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Featuring 100 of the best high school players in the country, the PDP serves as the primary identification event for the 18U National Team. The PDP League included games, practices, and educational seminars to help prepare players for the next level. The 100 players were split into four teams that were coached by former Big Leaguers including Lance Berkman, Jack Wilson, Dmitri Young, and others. Hitters used the DK SwingTracker during batting practice and in-game, collecting swing metrics that were evaluated by their PDP League coaches as well as college and professional scouts.
MLB All-Star Week
Diamond Kinetics played a huge part in MLB All-Star Week. DK was on location for the 2022 MLB All-Star High School All-American Game, MLB All-Star Commissioner’s Cup, Jennie Finch Classic, and MLB Play Ball Park.
- 2022 MLB All-Star High School All-American Game
The 2022 MLB All-Star High School All-American Game took place on July 15 at historic Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California as part of MLB’s All-Star Week. The most star-studded showcase event of the summer, the rosters were composed of the top prospects in the 2023 high school class, many of whom will be first round picks in the 2023 MLB Draft. The American League team defeated the National League in the game 13-8, with Aidan Miller being named the MLB Develops MVP after going 4 for 5 with 3 RBI. Every hitter swung with the Diamond Kinetics SwingTracker during pregame batting practice and in-game, allowing coaches and scouts to measure the swing metrics of the premier high school hitters in the nation.
- 2022 All-Star Commissioner’s Cup and All-Star Jennie Finch Classic
The 2022 All-Star Commissioner’s Cup took place at the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, California from July 15-18. Featuring 10 teams of youth players from MLB Youth Academies and Reviving Baseball In Inner Cities (RBI) programs from around the country and Puerto Rico. The All-Star Jennie Finch Classic, named after the Olympic Gold Medalist and MLB Ambassador, featured 10 teams of youth players from MLB Youth Academies, RBI Programs, and Jennie Finch Softball programming. Baseball and softball hitters used the Diamond Kinetics SwingTracker bat sensor in the batting cage between games, measuring and learning about metrics like max barrel speed and comparing their swings to Major League All-Stars using DK’s Swing Match Technology in the mobile app.
- Play Ball Park
Diamond Kinetics had multiple stations set up at Capital One Play Ball Park, the world’s largest playable baseball and softball festival, taking place inside and outside of the Los Angeles Convention Center throughout the LA Live Campus. Thousands of baseball and softball fans came through the Diamond Kinetics stations throughout All-Star week to measure swing metrics, check out their 3D swing plane, and see what Major League All-Star matched their swing with DK’s new swing match technology. Throughout the week, DK collected data on over 40,000 swings, showing thousands of baseball and softball fans of all ages new ways they can engage with and enjoy the games they love.
2022 PONY World Series Fan Fest and Home Run Derby
Diamond Kinetics had a hitting station set up at the PONY World Series Fan Fest on August 11 in Washington, PA where PONY World Series players, fans, and families competed on max barrel speed leaderboards while learning about their other hitting metrics like attack angle, applied power, and more. Players from all over the world were present and swung with DK, including teams from China, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and London. The fastest max barrel speed on the leaderboard was 66 MPH, with the winner taking home their own DK SwingTracker. Players, fans, and families also compared their swings to Major League all-stars with DK’s Swing Match Technology in the mobile app.
Every hitter that participated in the 2022 PONY World Series Home Run Derby swung with a DK SwingTracker. Following each home run, the hitter’s max barrel speed was announced to the crowd. Two hitters from every team participated, with the single-round high being seven home runs hit before five outs were recorded.
Diamond Kinetics had a busy, but fun, summer at some of the biggest events in baseball and softball. DK recorded swings from players of all ages and skill levels, giving them valuable swing metric measurements and, most importantly, showed them exciting new ways to have fun with the sports of baseball and softball.BACK TO HOME
